Every book in this series is action-packed and fun while yet chock full celebrated and scientific facts that were super intriguing for a kid, and it always made me super proud to learn all of these things Earlier they were taught in school.

I've outgrown the series now; just I will rate it as I felt when I had read it for the outset fourth dimension--I will charge per unit it as the target audition the volume is intended for--and give it an excellent 5 stars.

In volume #fourteen ("Day of the Dragon King") Morgan Le Fay sends the main librarians Annie and Jack to ancient China, armed with a bamboo strip with the title of an ancient legend that they must recover, and a reference book on The Fourth dimension of the First Emperor. Once in Prc, Jack and Annie learn about silk production from a young adult female, visit the Neat Wall, and come across a scholar, dressed as a cowherd, who catches them reading from their reference book, and is shocked by its format and materiality. One time in China, Jack and Annie larn about silk production from a young woman, visit the Swell Wall, and come across a scholar, dressed every bit a cowherd, who catches them reading from their reference book, and is shocked by its format and materiality. In an amusing dialogue, Jack explains that information technology's paper, which "your country" volition later on invent. The cowherd laments about how the Dragon King [Shi Huang, founder of the Qin dynasty] fears scholars, and has ordered that all books in the Imperial Library be burned. They sneak into the King's palace, where the scholar helps them find their bamboo volume. Soldiers then pursue them into the tomb of the Terracotta Regular army, where they become lost; at this bespeak they ask the book to "save us," and discover a ringlet of thread that helps them find the leave. One time back in good erstwhile PA, Morgan tells them that the "ancient legend" they've recovered is the Silk Weaver and the Cowherd, whom they encountered on their chance, and who are likewise constellations. A nice way for kids to muse about the fragility and stability of literature and the books that concord it! This is the second Magic Tree House book that I've read, and I must admit I'm honestly only kind of disappointed. I had heard good things almost the series, and I idea it would exist a series that while geared for kids, would still be fairly enjoyable fifty-fifty to an adult. That'south not really the case.

Now I get that this is a children's book, simply fifty-fifty then at that place my 2nd grader loved the book, while my 5th grader was less enthused, but still found information technology interesting. This seems to be a volume geared for the younger segment of children. It also seems to exist a volume serial that uses a rather calorie-free and formulaic story to help teach history. Information technology'southward a spoonful of sugar to help the history go down if you lot will.

It'southward certainly not that the story is all that compelling. Jack and Annie aren't super enjoyable characters, the ii stories I've read have all hit a similar plot construction which mainly felt like a style to talk about various locations, people, or aspects of the particular time they're visiting. Perchance information technology wouldn't be so weird if Jack and Annie weren't supposedly amazing because they're Master Librarians at such a immature age, only at the aforementioned time kind of bumble around without a very skilful programme.

Maybe the problem is that my kids really don't mind reading non-fiction works. If they didn't like those kind of books then a book like this may be a life saver. A fiction book that is a fairly easy read and teaches kids some historical facts. I'm still not certain I would appreciate the series that much. It yet just feels like it lacks personality or a spark that actually allows you to connect with it. That said while these books are okay, I probably won't be seeking any others out to read.

The series is a scrap repetitive in that the characters must always get to the tree business firm where the books are stored for reading. The books have a librarian. The librarian is missing certain books for the library. She needs Jack and Annie to go on adventures dorsum in time or into the future to obtain the missing pieces to the library.

On their journeying, they as well stumble upon an enchanting story told by the Chinese for generations. They are able to help brand this story happen by helping those important characters get together and thus the legacy lives on.

It is a loose connection and one that students may non be enlightened of. Nonetheless, if we were reading the volume, it would be interesting to provide that Ancient Chinese story in moving-picture show books or like shooting fish in a barrel reading if it is available to provide closure for students and awareness of the Chinese civilization.
